From First Climb to First Professional Contract: Celebrating Soleil Chang

There are moments as a teacher when you get to stop, look at a young artist you have watched grow, and think: Look how far she has come.

This is one of those moments.

Florida Aerial Dance & Circus Arts is incredibly proud to celebrate Soleil Chang as she begins her first professional performing contract at Dells Dinner Theatre in Wisconsin!

For us, this milestone is about much more than getting a job.

Soleil grew up in the circus.

Over the years at FADCA, we watched her develop from a young aerial student into a beautiful, capable performer—and eventually into a teacher and mentor for younger artists coming up behind her.

That kind of growth doesn't happen all at once.

It happens through thousands of climbs, inversions, corrections, rehearsals and repetitions. It happens on the days when everything works and, perhaps more importantly, on the days when it doesn't.

It happens by learning that accomplishing a skill and performing a skill are two very different things.

At FADCA, we believe young artists need two things: a foundation and a voice.

The foundation gives them the strength, technique, discipline and confidence to do extraordinary things safely.

The voice is something they discover over time.

It is musicality. Presence. Individuality. Character. The ability to walk onto a stage and make an audience want to watch.

Soleil found hers.
